Practice Plans......The first day of practice, what to do?

practice plans

There are many different paractice plans that can be utilized throughout the season. As the season starts and we don't know where players are best suited we use the following the plan.

15 minutes of casual throwing and catching (focus on those who need help so when you begin drills you know who to be paying attention too), and then stretching 5 minutes, and a lap around the field.

15 minutes of throwing drills, one knee plant foot out front, rotate the shoulders, elbow shoulder high, pivot and release, hand ending on the outside of the plant foot. Second drill is standing facing your target, feet shoulder width apart, glove, ball and hands out in front of the players chest, start by turning the shoulders toward the target, pulling the ball out of the glove, elbow shoulder high, throw and release with the hand outside the plant knee.

15 minutes of standing and catching trying to get to ten good throws and catches per two person team.

15 minutes of fielding footwork, feet spread slightly wider than shoulders width, knees bend ninety degrees, hands and glove out front, eyes down when feilding the ball, you should be able to see the button on top of the players hat when fielding the ball. Catch the ball with soft hands, come up crow hop and throw.

20 minutes of hitting drills, tee work, soft toss, one hand swings, stance review.

10 minutes of games, bop the bear, running the bases relay, team hitting and fielding running game, etc.

I will have more extensive plans as the site develops but this is a good way to kick the season off and get everyone acquianted with their teammates and coaches.
